| EC bars Himachal BJP chief Satpal Satti from campaigning for 48 hours | | | |  New Delhi April 20(Agencies)
Election Commission of India has imposed 48-hour ban on Himachal Pradesh State BJP President Satpal Satti from campaigning for his remarks against Congress President Rahul Gandhi.
The ban will come into force on Saturday.
The Commission observed that the impugned statement made by Satpal Satti, during the election campaign held at Ramshehar of Solan district in Himachal Pradesh, is not only indecent but also derogatory and totally uncalled for.
The commission exercised powers under Article 324 of the Indian Constitution. BJP leader Satpal Satti is the fourth leader in the country to face such a ban and the first in the state. The ban means he cannot hold public meetings, rallies, roadshows, or even given interviews.
The development comes days after an FIR was registered against him for his remarks. Congress has been holding protests across the state to demand action against the BJP leader.
Although Satpal Satti has remained defiant by refusing to apologise, he was believed to have been told off by the BJP and Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh. | | | | |
