Lok Sabha discusses no-confidence motion against govt
The discussion on the No Confidence Motion is underway in the Lok Sabha.

Participating in the debate on the motion, Home Minister Rajnath Singh said the opposition is not able to understand the faith people reposed in the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

He said, after 30 years, a government with the full majority was formed under the leadership of Mr. Modi in 2014. The Minister said, the continuous victories of BJP in assembly elections shows the trust of people in the Prime Minister's leadership.

Mr Singh said, Mr Modi has raised India’s stature globally and now it is being recognised as the most attractive destination for investment.

Talking about incidents of mob lynching, the Home Minister said, states have also been asked to make stringent laws on the issue. In an apparent reference to opposition attack on the government over such incidents, Mr Singh said, the biggest case of mob lynching happened during the 1984 anti-Sikh riots.

He also assured the people of Andhra Pradesh of providing all assistance and support for the development of the state.

Earlier, participating in the discussion, Congress President Rahul Gandhi accused the NDA government of giving only lofty promises to people.

Mr Gandhi questioned the Government for not revealing the details related to purchase of Rafale aircraft.

Taking part in the debate, Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman rejected the Congress President’s allegation related to the Rafale deal. She cited a secrecy agreement signed during UPA rule in 2008 saying, the details of the deal cannot be divulged under this pact.

Initiating the discussion, Jayadev Galla of Telugu Desam Party that had moved the motion against the government, charged the present NDA regime with making empty promises to Andhra Pradesh from the time of its bifurcation in 2014.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will reply to the debate in a short while from now.

Ahead of the discussion, Biju Janta Dal members walked out of the house. Party MP Bhartruhari Mahtab alleged that neither the previous Congress rule nor the BJP led Government have done justice to the people of Odisha.

Meanwhile, Shiv Sena has decided to remain absent during Vote of No Confidence.
