Karnataka registers 70% voting in Assembly Polls

Karnataka 12 May
In Karnataka, 70% voter turnout was recorded in state assembly polls which concluded at 6 pm on Saturday.

Voting, which began on a moderate note, gathered momentum in the afternoon as the deadline neared.

At least 4.97 crore voters were eligible to exercise their franchise to pick from a field of 2,654 candidates.

Polling was held in 222 constituencies of the 224-member Assembly.

Voting, by and large, remained peaceful. Re-polling will take place in Hebbal assembly constituency's Polling Station Number 2 on May 14 after polling was stopped there due to EVM failure.

While, Elections in two constituencies were countermanded in Jayanagara, following the death of BJP candidate and sitting MLA B N Vijaykumar and in Rajrajeshwari Nagar after the Election Commission said there is "definite inference" to suggest that efforts were made to induce voters.
