| Kupwara Woman delivers baby on road as Docs at LD refuse to admit her | | | |  Srinagar, Jan 19 (Agencies): Lal Ded must be ashamed of all the doctors working at a place which is named after her. Yes, we are talking about Kashmir lone tertiary care maternity hospital Lal Ded, where a woman was forced to deliver baby on a road as the doctors refused to admit her.
Later, the woman who hails from north Kashmir’s Kupwara district delivered the baby on road in this bone chilly winter season.
The incident has created rage across Kashmir with people demanding strict action against the doctors and paramedical staff involved in the shameful incident.
“This incident needs a thorough inquiry to find out the factual position, so that appropriate action is taken against the concerned if found liable for such negligence/ act,” reads the order issued by the Divisional Commissioner to the principal GMC.
"You are accordingly directed to enquire into the matter and furnish the inquiry report along with your explicit comments within two days, treating the matter most urgent," the order added.
Meanwhile, Medical Superintendent of Lal Ded hospital, Dr Shabir Siddique talking to media termed the incident as unfortunate and said that the doctor who has sent the lady back to home has been attached to Medical College pending enquiry.
“I have taken up the matter with Head of Department,” he said.
He also added that the doctor has said that the patient was not in labour; therefore they have sent her back to home.
However, Siddique said that they have clear directions that any patient even if her condition is normal and is visiting from far-flung areas should be asked to stay at hospital for the night till any examination and decision be taken in the morning. “We have taken serious note of the issue and the factual report will be publicized soon,” he added.
Former chief ministers Mehbooba Mufti and Omar Abdullah demanded strict action in the tragic case.
“Heart wrenching that a pregnant woman was turned away from a hospital which ironically is named after the great Kashmiri mystic saint Lal Ded. She later gave birth to a still born in frigid temperatures. Cannot even begin to fathom the pain & trauma the parents must feel,” Mehbooba Mufti Tweeted
“I hope the state functionaries working under the command of @jandkgovernor take immediate action in this tragic case,” Omar Abdullah said in his tweet.
Former minister and Peoples Conference chairman Sajad Lone in his tweet said there is a dire need to reorient health devices.
"Woman gives birth on road. It is imperative that action is taken. Overall there is a dire need to reorient health devices to challenges today," Sajad Lone tweeted. | | | | |
