Asks officers to prioritize repairs of vulnerable spots

JAMMU, JANUARY 11: Minister for PHE, Irrigation & Flood Control Sham Lal Choudhary today convened a meeting to review the measures being taken for carrying out flood protection works on river Chenab in Akhnoor and Pargwal area.
MLA Akhnoor Rajeev Sharma, MLA Chhamb Dr Krishan Lal Bhagat, Commissioner Secretary, PHE, I&FC department, Sanjeev Verma and other senior officers were present in the meeting.
The Minister was informed in the meeting that a Detailed Project Report (DPR) amounting Rs 193 crore has been prepared by the department to carry out aforementioned flood protection works on the river.
Sensing the urgency and availability of ideal conditions for carrying out the requisite works, the Minister directed the concerned officers to focus on highly vulnerable spots first so that the risk of any flood like situation can be avoided. The pending works should also be taken up in a time bound manner, he added.
Pertinently, the Minister had recently taken up this issue with Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti, who had assured full cooperation to the department for carrying out the necessary works.
Meanwhile, the Legislators also raised various issues related to damage caused in their respective areas due to frequent rise in level of water in the river and requested the Minister to take required steps to deal with expected losses to people and their property.
