Srinagar, July 20: (Agencies) A police constable suffered injuries after he was thrashed by a group of youth protesting against the ghastly murder of a 9-year-old boy whose charred body was recovered on Thursday from a nallah in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district.

Reports said that Ghulam Mohiuddin, a constable of district special branch (DSB), was injured after he was manhandled by some youth during overnight protests in Batergam village of the district.

An official said that Mohiudin was performing his duty when he was thrashed and kept confined to a house by angry protesters.

He said the constable was saved by a police team headed by Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Kupwara and other officials.

The constable, he said, was taken to District Hospital Kupwara for treatment wherefrom he was referred to Srinagar hospital for advanced treatment.

SSP Kupwara Ambarkar Shriram Dinkar confirmed the incident and said the police have taken cognizance of the incident.
