PM Modi launches projects worth over 900 crore rupees in Varanasi; approves more than 200 projects worth Rs 21,000 cr for Ganga rejuvenation; PM offers prayers at Vishwanath Temple in Banaras Hindu University campus.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday gifted his constituency Varanasi with developmental projects worth over Rs 900 crore.

He highlighted the efforts made by both the state and central governments to transform Kashi. A city that till four years ago struggled with inadequate infrastructure is today morphing into a Smart city that retains its ancient roots.

Marrying the ancient with the modern, that is the new Banaras that Prime Minister Narendra Modi envisages. He launched projects worth a total of Rs 937 crore to achieve this goal.

He flagged off the Varanasi-Ballia EMU train. He also laid the foundation stone for the Panchkoshi Parikrama Marg, and several projects under the Smart City Mission and Namaami Gange as well as the Varanasi City Gas Distribution Project. The Prime Minister also laid the foundation stone for an International Convention Centre in Varanasi. Prime Minister Modi said that new Banaras is being created as New India is emerging.

PM Modi also hit out at the Opposition for filling their coffers in the name of cleaning River Ganga. He said that the BJP government has revived the move to clean the river in a holistic manner under the Swachh Ganga Abhiyaan.

Increasing amenities for devotees and tourists who flock to Banaras, reducing pollution by promoting CNG vehicles were some of the other things Prime Minister Narendra Modi highlighted. He also recalled the warm hospitality Banaras extended to French President Emmanuel Macron and Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe. P

PM Modi also announced that Pravasi Bhartiya Diwas in January 2019 will be organized in Banaras.
