PM: Self Help Groups triggering financial growth of poor

JPrime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday interacted directly with the members of Self Help Groups under Deendayal AntyodayaYojana – National Rural Livelihoods Mission and beneficiaries of Deen Dayal Upadhyay Gramin Kaushalya Yojna through video conferencing.

The interaction provided an opportunity to the Prime Minister to get to know, directly from the Self Help Groups members, about the various activities being undertaken by them under Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana – National Rural Livelihoods Mission and how it has impacted their lives.

PM Modi said that women empowerment means providing opportunities to women after realising and identifying their inherent talent.

Prime Minister also said that such help groups are financially empowering the women.

Beneficiaries included Self Help Groups working on Anti-alcohol movement from Bihar, Brick making unit from Chhattisgarh.

Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana – National Rural Livelihoods Mission has emerged as the largest institutional platform for women's empowerment.

The Mission has now initiated implementation in 4884 blocks spread across 600 districts. More than 5 crore women have been mobilized into 45 lakh Self Help Groups.

PM Modi says financially empowered women are bulwark against societal evils


Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said that self-help groups are playing a very important role in the rural areas of the country especially for small entrepreneurs and for labourers.

Interacting with the members of Self Help Groups, (SHGs) comprising more than 10 million women across the country, through video conferencing this morning, Prime Minister said, Self Help Groups form the basis of economic growth for the poor especially the women.

He said, the groups are making women socially and economically strong. He said, for women empowerment, the most important requirement is to provide them the opportunity to recognize their own powers, abilities and skills.

The Prime Minister said, women are working in large numbers in every sector and the country's agricultural sector and dairy sector can not be imagined without the contribution of women. He said, Deendayal Antyodaya Yojna under the National Rural Livelihood Mission, there is a target of reaching millions of rural poor families.
