Authorities have decided to make additional deployment of security personnel in sensitive places on the eve of Eid-ul-Fitr, with police and civil administration have been directed to monitor the situation closely on the festival in Kashmir.
Sources told local media news Service that the government has directed police and district civil administration officers to be available at their district headquarters to monitor the situation on Eid-ul-Fitr.
Sources said the government has directed these officers not to leave the headquarters, without the prior permission of the designated authorities.
This step according to sources has been taken to keep proper vigil on the situation.
One of the top Police officials told KNS that adequate security arrangements will be made across the state to avoid any law and order problem.
“The activities of all those youth who had been arrested, released on the charges of stone pelting in the past are being properly monitored,” the police official said.
“There will be additional deployment of security forces in various place in Srinagar, Sopore, Tral, Pulwama, Anantnag, Kulgam and other places that witness frequent protests,” the official maintained.
A senior official said police was committed to ensure peaceful upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr.
“We are well prepared to deal with any situation and nobody will be allowed to disturb law and order,” he said.
Meanwhile sources told local press that the government was unlikely to release political prisoners before the Eid-ul-Fitr.
Hurriyat leaders have demanded the release of all the political prisoners before the Eid.
A senior police official wishing anonymity told media reporter that police was yet to take any decision over releasing of any political prisoners. “Moreover it was outside the domain of police to release any prisoner on its own. No such decision has been taken since we have to adhere the court orders before releasing any prisoner,” he said.
When asked police had released some political prisoners and stone pelters before the Eid in the previous years, he replied, “There is nothing such and they would have been released as per the court orders. Before Eid if any prisoner is released, it will be on the court orders,” the official maintained. | | | | |
